Technologies Changing Social Media for the Better

technologies changing social media

Every year, the number of social media users proliferates. There’s no surprise as to why technology won’t advance when there are billions of users on these social media platforms.

Although some think that technology may invade their privacy to some extent by selling their data to third parties, technology is changing social media for the better. You can easily connect with your loved ones through video calls and get followers for Twitter or other social media sites quickly with the help of organic growth tools.

In this article, we’ll explore how technology has impacted social media and our lives for the better.

Artificial Intelligence

Every social media platform, from LinkedIn and Instagram to Facebook, uses artificial intelligence. Although, at times, it’s taken from a negative perspective because we humans fear getting taken over by robots, it has paved the way for convenience and better app usage for social media users.

Unlike traditional ads, such as billboards and magazines, which can be really expensive and not as effective, social media platforms allow you to run targeted ads while saving you loads of money.

This is all thanks to artificial intelligence. Once you choose the settings for your ads, like who you want to target, the artificial intelligence only displays those ads to a relevant audience, so more people engage with them.

In addition, artificial intelligence also improves social media user experience by showing them posts even from friends based on their past activity because it knows what kind of content you will enjoy the most.

LinkedIn keeps recommending you job searches or connections based on your activities. Facebook shows you memes or other kinds of relevant content on your feed. Likewise, YouTube keeps recommending you videos on the basis of your watch history.

RFID – Radio Frequency Identification Tags

RFID technology has significantly helped brands boost brand awareness and recognition while generating buzz around their business on social media.

RFID is basically a tiny chip that holds info on a person or object. Brands generally leverage this technology at their events.

What they do is place an RFID reader at the event and provide event attendees with either RFID wristbands or cards, so they can boost engagement on social media by scanning their RFID wristbands or cards with the RFID reader.

Once the RFID reader reads the RFID wristbands, it collects that person’s information. It allows them to automatically take action on social media through their account, such as liking an event or downloading a few music tracks directly on their phone.

This helps brands boost engagement on social media about the event and let other people, who aren’t attending the event, know about the event. Moreover, brands can collect RFID holders’ contact information and use it for email marketing purposes.

Privacy and Security Features

Of course, with the massive popularity of social media platforms, you are also attracting hackers to your personal or branded accounts. Not only do they contain your personal information, but in the case of business accounts, information on your customers.

Losing both personal and business information can be a nightmare for you. However, thanks to the same technology, social media platforms offer privacy and security features to help you keep your online presence safe and sound from cyber perpetrators.

Almost every social media platform offers two-factor authentication, which acts as a double layer of security and asks the hacker to enter a secret code sent only to you via email or text.

Another great example is TikTok. It keeps monitoring any unusual activity and sends security alerts on your device, so you can take action in advance. You can also view verified devices or devices with current access to your account.

Augmented Reality

Pokémon Go was quite the hype a few years ago. It was fun and interactive and allowed you to discover and catch cute creatures only through your screen. This was really when augmented reality technology boomed.

Nowadays, whether through Instagram or Snapchat, you can use augmented reality through filters. There are tons of filters on these social media platforms that you can search for and use for fun.

Most brands even create their own filters, especially when they want to market their new or upcoming product/service launch. They are also ideal for increasing brand awareness among social media users.

Communication Mediums

Whether through messaging, video calls, or audio calls, social media platforms are a great medium for communication. No matter where you are in the world, you can always stay updated with your loved ones.

Social media users also keep updating their status or uploading stories that keep the other person in the loop. You can exchange information and even stay updated with what’s happening around the world.

In terms of brands, they can directly communicate with their current or potential customers and humanize themselves. They can receive instant feedback or any query from them and reply to them to enhance their overall experience with a business.
