The summer 2020 blew up streaming music records. With more people in isolation, lockdown and working from home, music became a happy place for many across the globe. Let’s take a look at some of the top streamed songs in 2020 and how well it did over multiple streaming platforms like Spotify and but also one of the biggest Youtube converter used by some of the artists and record companies.

The songs below have been monitored over the period of 1st June to 15th August which is how summer hits are determined.

“Rockstar” by DaBaby featuring Roddy Ricch

Considered to be the most streamed song of 2020, “Rockstar” by DaBaby featuring Roddy Ricch raked in more than 380 million streams between 1st June and 15th August.

Rockstar belongs to the hip hop and rap genre and has been consistently on the top charts. Besides streaming platforms, the song has received over 200 million views on YouTube as well making it music fan’s favorite for the year.

The background instrumentals on the song stays consistent while the beat goes up and down with the lyrics. The lyrics are captivating and convey messages on violence, inner turmoil and PTSD.

“Blinding Lights” by Weeknd

“Blinding lights” is a song by the Canadian singer, The Weeknd, making it a second single for his fourth album. The song became an instant hit staying number one in thirty-four countries for four weeks. It is considered to be Weeknd’s most successful single to date.

The song is about rekindling a past relationship and the importance of having a partner by your side. The opening beat of the song is mixed with Michael Jackson’s beat it – making it a great song to jump around your living room in a N-95 mask with your hands up.

The song did well with the general public and music fans being streamed over 340 million times and played on YouTube more than 250 million times.

“Roses” became one of the most famous dance Electro house music upon its release. The song initially dropped in 2016 but was part of another album in 2018 as well. The song came back again in 2020 as a remix and took the music scene by storm.

The song became number one in Australia, Canada, Ireland and many more countries. It even stayed for two weeks on the number one spot in the UK charts.

The song has been listened over 240 million times on streaming platforms and have been added to many workout playlists due to its strong beats. It even has more than 100 million views on YouTube.

“Watermelon Sugar” by Harry Styles

After breaking up with One Direction, Harry Styles found more fame as a solo singer with his constant hits. However, “Watermelon Sugar” put Harry Styles on one of the top artist’s pedestals.

The song was released on his new 2019 album “fine line” and is a rock, funk pop indie song. The song is driven by guitar and trumpets giving it a Jazz vibe.

It is rumored that the song is about oral sex however the artist has not confirmed any details as of yet. The song was well received and referred to as exciting with more than 200 million streams and watched over 123 million times on YouTube.

“Don’t Start Now” by Dua Lipa

Considered as the queen of alternate pop in the modern age, Dua Lipa’s “Don’t start now” is inspired by the Bee Gees, Daft punk and two door cinema club.

The song is refreshing and gives a new perspective to those who have gone through a recent breakup or a rough relationship. The song has Dua Lipa celebrating and forgetting about her past relationship. The 1980s theme and disco element is what makes this modern pop song stand out among the rest peaking at number 2 on UK’s charts and US billboard hot 100.

The song charted on the top 10 in more than 40 countries worldwide making it an international success as well. “Don’t start now” streamed over 150 million times with more than 390 million YouTube videos as of today.
